The Best Beauty Experiments To Do While You’re Staying Home
By Cassidy Best | Apr 13, 2020The sunny side of staying home is that we all potentially have some extra self care time - and we all need a bit of that right now. Now more than ever, we need to make time for ourselves and put our bodies first. And what better way to do that than with a few at home beauty experiments? Finally, time for all of the weird beauty trends you’ve been reading about but never have time for. Read on if you’re ready for a beauty experiment!
An #OddlySatisfying Foot Peel
Since sandal season is right around the corner, it’s time to get those feet ready to be seen. Go DIY and put your essential oils to good use for a luxurious foot scrub, or take one out of my book and purchase one on Amazon. Ever heard of Baby Foot’s infamous effects? This is the time to let your dead skin shed - especially with few people around to witness it! Either way, let those feet soak and say buh-bye to cracks and calluses.
Make It Yourself Moment
If your 9th birthday party looked anything like mine, it was complete with mashing up bananas and mixing it with honey for a homemade mask and slicing cucumbers for our eyes and calling it a “spa.” No wonder I didn’t jump on the masking train until 12 years later! BUT, we have come a LONG way since then, and we’ve got a few at home recipes you’re gonna want to try.
DIY for Dark Spots:
Try mixing together 1 tsp of turmeric powder with 2 tbsp of plain greek yogurt. Combine and spread a thin layer on your skin and let it sit for 15 minutes. You should see a difference in brightness and dark spots after the first use!
Sugar Lip Scrub:
To make this lip scrub, mix together 1 tbsp coconut oil, 2 tbsp brown sugar, and 1 tbsp honey. Mix all ingredients together. With freshly washed hands, use your fingertips to gently scrub lips. Then rinse with warm water.
Simple Steam Room
Try an aromatherapy shower! This is the easiest way to feel like you’re at the spa while staying at home. Choose a relaxing oil such as lavender, rose, or sandalwood and add a few drops to a damp flannel or sponge. Place this on the floor of your shower so the water runs over it. You’ll be instantly relaxed as the scents mix with the steam.
Blow Off Your Blowout
Being home for an extended period of time is the perfect time to “train” your hair. What do we mean, you ask? If you’re someone who washes their hair every day only to find it getting oily within hours, you may be washing your hair too much. By training your hair to go longer between washes, oil will begin to regulate itself - but it takes a few days of extra oily hair to get to the other side of fewer washes. While you're in between washes, reach for a dry shampoo/hair refresher to keep up appearances on video conferences.
Experiment With Acids
Have you been holding off on trying a new powerful product because you’re not sure how your skin will react? There’s no better time to break out the acids and retinols/retinoids. We’ve been loving using Fast Lane Instant Facial, the AHA/BHA packed exfoliating mask that works to quickly resurface skin, for a facial at home. If you’ve never tried an AHA/BHA mask, this is the perfect time!
